Turnips can be grown for greens or for the bulb. They grow fairly quickly, maturing in about 2 months, so you can get more than one harvest in a season. They generally require a full sun location but will tolerate partial shade. Requires sandy or well-draining soil and at least 1 inch of water per week is vital for good root development. Plant late in the summer to harvest turnips before the first frost. Turnip Greens can be harvested when they are 4 inches tall and fruit can be harvested when it’s 2-3 inches in diameter. Easy to grow in home garden by direct seeding.
